If you or your family don’t have the time to call a professional right away, it is highly recommended that you prepare for emergency flood situations. Keep birth certificates and other important documents in air tight waterproof containers. Before doing any serious flood damage repairs, make sure all power is turned off; trying to repair water damage with the electricity turned on is extremely dangerous. Once you have turned off the electricity, it is vital to get as much water out as fast as possible. Dealing with this water immediately could save you a tremendous amount of money. It’s a hard thing to do, but filling a trash can with soiled items will make the job easier. Anything that has been destroyed by water must be thrown away to prevent future damages. On the other hand, all undamaged household items should be removed as well. Renting a hauling truck or trailer and putting your beloved items in a dry, safe place can save more time and money.
